At Pelham Cares, our clients are grateful to receive some of the amazing bounty of fruits and vegetables grown right here in our community – thanks to our generous farmers and citizens. One innovative program, initiated by Ruth Gatzke and Marc McKerracher of Rumar Farm in Ridgeville, allows community members an opportunity to donate weekly shares of their freshly-picked organic produce to the food bank at Pelham Cares.
As part of the Community- Supported Agriculture (CSA) program at Rumar Farm, individuals can purchase a weekly package of fresh, seasonal produce during the growing season. An additional program offered is for Corporate members who may purchase a CSA allotment as a donation to Pelham Cares. So far, two local donor families take part in this CSA share program, and a third allotment is donated (and delivered!) by Ruth and Marc themselves, allowing more community members to reap the benefits of healthy, local produce.
Allen Sadikov and Amanda Selig from IG Wealth Management are neighbours and customers of Rumar Farm. Committed to bringing home locally-grown produce for their own kids, Allen and Amanda are interested in ways to help more families access healthy food. They were pleased to be able to contribute to Rumar’s CSA donor program in their community.
Judene and Andre Benoit and their 3 boys from Smith Family Dentistry are loyal customers of Rumar Farm, enjoying the variety of different herbs, berries, vegetables and fruits each week. When approached to be a donor-sponsor, they did not hesitate to help out: “Ruth and Marc provide top-notch certified organic fruits and vegetables, and also have a heart for giving. We were happy to support them and to help out Pelham Cares”.
