Food & Hygiene Bank

“Providing food assistance to Pelham individuals and families in need.”

You will be entitled to receive a food hamper once per month. You will be required to contact us prior to your pick up week to receive each monthly hamper. The hamper is packed by volunteers in accordance with the size of your family. Volunteers will try their best to take dietary needs into consideration, so please provide any dietary details necessary when registering. Please note that we cannot always accommodate all dietary requests.

Depending on availability, a typical hamper will contain a variety of perishable and non-perishable food items such as pasta, rice, cereal, canned fruits and vegetables, fresh or frozen fruits and vegetables, protein options, bread, milk, eggs and margarine.

Proof of Residency within Pelham Boundaries

You will be asked to provide:

  • Identification for all members of the household (1 piece of identification; drivers license, birth certificate, or passport, etc.)
  • Proof of residence (a recent bill/invoice (dated within the last 1-2 months) that contains your residential address).
  • This information must be updated yearly.

Once registered, you qualify for all services provided by Pelham Cares.

Holiday Hampers

“Providing holiday food hampers to Pelham individuals and families in need”
Client individuals and families already registered with Pelham Cares are eligible to receive a holiday hamper, but must notify us that it is needed. Individuals and families can register for JUST the holiday hamper using the same process as required for registered clients.

If not already registered, please contact us at 905-892-5300 or info@pelhamcares.org, Monday to Friday between 8:30 am and 12:00 pm. Please leave a message if after hours, with contact information, we will respond as soon as possible.

Proof of Residency within Pelham Boundaries

You will be asked to provide:

  • Identification for all members of the household (1 piece of identification; drivers license, birth certificate, or passport, etc.).
  • Proof of residence (a recent bill/invoice (dated within the last 1-2 months) that contains your residential address).
  • You will also be asked to provide dietary details necessary when registering.

What you will Receive

The hamper will contain one main protein item (turkey or ham), appropriate accompaniments, and vegetables. Additional items will be included on an as available basis. The hamper is packed by volunteers in accordance with the size of your family. Volunteers will try their best to take dietary needs into consideration, so please provide any dietary details necessary when registering. Please note that we cannot accommodate all dietary requests. The Christmas hamper will also include gifts/toys for children and youth in the household, aged 18 and under.

Transportation to Medical Appointments

Providing transportation for Pelham individuals to medical and related appointments. Qualification

You will be asked to provide:

  • You must be a resident of Pelham
  • You must be capable of walking and entering and exiting the vehicle with minimal assistance (walkers are accommodated, wheel-chairs can not be accommodated)
  • A companion is welcome to accompany you to your appointment

Volunteer drivers will provide transportation to Pelham residents to and from medical and related appointments, within and outside of the Niagara Region. There is no charge for this service, however Clients are required to pay out-of-pocket expenses. Clients will contact Pelham Cares with reasonable notice, and provide date, time and location of the appointments. They will be contacted when a driver is identified. Drives are not guaranteed, and the number of drives per month may be limited based on availability of volunteer drivers. Therefore clients are encouraged to contact family members or friends when possible. If Pelham Cares can not provide a driver, we will provide information on other services available. Note that the transportation is to and from the appointment, and does not include any other stops.

Youth Sport & Recreation Subsidy

“Providing sponsorship for Pelham children & youth to participate in sports, recreational and educational activities.”

Clients already registered with Pelham Cares are eligible to participate in this program. It is not necessary to receive food hampers to qualify for this program. If not already registered, please contact us at 905-892-5300 or info@pelhamcares.org, Monday to Friday between 8:30 am and 12:00 pm. Please, leave a message if after hours, with contact information, we will respond as soon as possible. Once registered, you will qualify for all services provided by Pelham Cares.

Proof of Income and residency within the Pelham Boundaries

You will be asked to provide:

  • Proof of income (paystub, social assistance statement, or annual tax assessment);
  • Identification for all members of the household (1 piece of identification; drivers license, birth certificate, or passport, etc.);
  • Proof of residence (a recent bill/invoice (dated within the last 1-2 months) that contains your residential address.
  • This information must be updated yearly.

Qualification

  • Child or youth must be 18 years of age or younger, and still attending school;
  • The child or youth must be a member residing in the household of a family registered with Pelham Cares;
  • The program must fit within the criteria of sports, recreation or education (school trips, etc.) as established by Pelham Cares

Parent or guardians will be asked to provide proof of enrolment in an approved activity. Funds will be forwarded directly to the program provider up to a pre-established maximum per child per year.

Back to School Backpacks

“Providing backpacks with school supplies and school snacks to children of our registered client families, at ‘back-to-school’ time”.

Birthday Program

“Providing gifts for parents of registered client families, to give their children at birthday time. An appropriate gift can be selected from our ‘gift room’ and is based on availability.”

Emergency Response

“Responding to Pelham families experiencing a home fire or other catastrophic loss, by providing emergency food, personal hygiene and household supplies, and referrals for additional services.”

Pelham Cares Inc. is not just a food bank. The services provided have evolved from providing food and friendly visits to include food, personal hygiene and household items, transportation to medical appointments, the sponsorship of youth to enable their participation in sports, recreational and educational activities, and  information and referrals in response to emergency situations.
