Food & Hygiene Bank

Pelham Cares offers Food & Hygiene Items through a Shopping Model.  Clients are invited to shop for their own groceries from our shelves in accordance with the needs of their own individual households.

To access this service, please call 905-892-5300 or email info@pelhamcares.org to arrange an appointment.

Appointment days/times are as follows:

Tuesday afternoon:  1:00 –  4:00
Wednesday morning:  9:00 – 11:30
Thursday morning: 9:00 – 12:00

Please note: appointments can be made once every 30 days.

Holiday Hampers

We provide additional support at holiday times for clients to have what they need to enjoy a celebratory meal.

At Christmas time, this includes gift items for all children 18 years old and under.

Please note:  All clients must request a Holiday Hamper in order to receive one (this request is independent of Food Bank appointments).  To register for a Holiday Hamper please call us at 905-892-5300 or email info@pelhamcares.org.

Registration for hampers must be no later than one month before the holiday date.

Transportation to Medical Appointments

Pelham Cares provides the residents of Pelham, transportation to medical appointments when they have no other options.  If you are in need of transportation to a medical appointment, please contact us at 905-892-5300 or info@pelhamcares.org, Monday to Friday between 8:30 am and 12:00 pm to make arrangements. Please give at least 4 days (for local appointments) & 8 days (for out of town appointments) notice, so there is time to make the necessary arrangements.

Qualification

More important information:

  • You must be a resident of Pelham
  • You must be capable of walking and entering and exiting the vehicle with minimal assistance (walkers are accommodated, wheel-chairs can not be accommodated)
  • A companion is welcome to accompany you to your appointment

Volunteer drivers will provide transportation to Pelham residents to and from medical appointments, within and outside of the Niagara Region. There is no charge for this service, however Clients are required to pay out-of-pocket expenses such as parking. Clients will contact Pelham Cares with reasonable notice (as stated above), and provide date, time, location, and estimated length of the appointments. They will be contacted when a driver is identified.

Drives are not guaranteed, and the number of drives per month may be limited based on availability of volunteer drivers. Therefore, clients are encouraged to contact family members or friends when possible. Note that the transportation is to and from the appointment only and does not include any other stops.

Youth Sport & Recreation Subsidy

Pelham Cares provides a sponsorship program to allow children (18 years of age or younger and still attending school) of qualifying families living in Pelham, to participate in sports, recreational and educational activities.

The activities must be approved by Pelham Cares before enrolling and if approved, the payment will be forwarded to the program provider directly.

Pelham Cares establishes each calendar year, a yearly maximum subsidy per child.

Back to School Backpacks

Backpacks and school supplies are available to children (18 years of age and under) during the month of August.  If your child will be in need of a backpack, please call 905-892-5300 or email info@pelhamcares.org to register for this program in July.

Birthday Program

Pelham Cares has a gift room containing gifts for children that our clients can access throughout the year for their child’s birthday or if their child needs to give a birthday gift.

Information & Referrals

If you are in need of services in the Niagara Region, Pelham Cares will do their best to bridge you to the services that are available.

Emergency Response

Pelham Cares is available to respond to families experiencing an emergency, such as a house fire, by providing emergency food, personal hygiene items and referrals for additional services.

If you are in need of emergency support, please contact us at 905-892-5300 or info@pelhamcares.org, Monday to Friday between 8:30 am and 12:00 pm. Please leave a message if after hours, with contact information, and we will respond as soon as possible.

In an emergency, contact the local Red Cross at 905-680-4099.
